Summer School Modified

June 8, 2009

Dear Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified Families:

You have probably been reading in the newspapers about the State's unprecedented budget crisis. Unfortunately, the latest unforeseen declaration from the Governor's office calls for additional and substantial cuts to education.

While we know that families have been planning on summer school, our district, like many across California , finds it necessary to modify this year's planned summer program to serve:

  • High school students in need of credit recovery;
  • Middle school eighth-grade students recommended for retention; and
  • Special education students with disabilities—preschool through adult

Unfortunately, we will not be able to offer our planned program for kindergarten through eighth-grade general education students this summer. Enrichment summer school will still continue as planned. We do encourage families to check the links on this page for updated summer school sites, and information about alternative programs available during the summer.

Thank you for your continued support of our local schools as we grapple with yet another difficult and constantly-changing state budget crisis.

Sincerely,

Dennis Smith, Ed.D.
Superintendent
