School Choice Transfers

Overview

The Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) School Choice Transfer Request period for the 2024-2025 school year is coming soon. During this time, parents of any current or incoming students who wish to attend a PYLUSD school other than their home school of residence for the 2024-2025 school year should fill out a School Choice Transfer Request. 
 
School Choice Transfer Request Windows

CLOSED - Students in 1st Through 12th Grade in 2024-25
January 10 to February 9, 2024
Request notifications will take place on or before Friday, March 15, 2024.
 
CLOSED - Students in Transitional Kindergarten or Kindergarten in 2024-25
March 18 to March 29, 2024
Request notifications will take place on or before Friday, April 12, 2024.
***New Students should enroll in their school of residence and then apply for a choice transfer if so desired. Enrollment for the school  year 2024-2025 starts on February 1st.*** 
 

 
Additional Information About School Choice
Transfer approvals are subject to space availability. In any situation where the number of requests exceeds the space available, approval of transfers will be determined by a random and unbiased selection process. Applications received during the school choice window are not processed on a first-come, first-served basis.
 
During the respective windows, interested families may complete a School Choice Transfer Request in the Aeries Parent Portal (instructions will be shared in January) or receive in-person assistance completing the online request at the PYLUSD Student Services office located at 1301 E. Orangethorpe Ave, Placentia, CA 92870.
 
Please note that PYLUSD school sites do not distribute nor accept School Choice Transfer Requests. In addition, once a student has been approved to their school of choice, that school becomes their designated school of attendance. For approved transfers in TK-6, this transfer will remain in effect through middle school. Families with a school choice transfer through middle school do not need to submit a new application. Current 8th graders attending a middle school on a School Choice Transfer must reapply if they wish to attend a PYLUSD high school other than their home school of residence.
 


Instruction for How to Submit School Choice Transfer Request in Aeries Parent Portal

 

For Currently Enrolled Students (Most Common)

*If previously enrolled but not currently attending a PYLUSD school, please contact Student Services at (714) 985-8670 to reactivate your Parent Portal before proceeding further.

  1. During the applicable time frame, log in to the Aeries Parent Portal.
  2. Click on the student you would like to submit a School Choice Transfer Request. 
  3. Be sure you have selected the correct student.
  4. Click Student Info.
  5. Click on the School Choice Transfer Request Form.
  6. Complete the request.
  7. Repeat for every student as necessary.

 

To Add a New Student to an Existing Aeries Parent Portal

  1. During the applicable time frame, log in to the Aeries Parent Portal.
  2. Click Student Info.
  3. Click on the School Choice Transfer Request Form.
  4. Click on Add New Student/Sibling to existing Aeries Parent Portal account.
  5. Complete the general information for the new student then click save. 
  6. Information for at least one parent/guardian is required. This includes email address and phone number.
  7. You will be returned to the School Choice Transfer Request screen.
  8. Click on Create a New School of Choice Request.
  9. Be sure to have the correct student profile while processing this request.
  10. Complete the request.
  11. Repeat for every student as necessary.

 

For New Students Whose Parents Do Not Have a PYLUSD Aeries Account

  1. If you do not have a student currently enrolled in PYLUSD, create a new Aeries Parent Portal account.
  2. Provide email and create a password.  
  3. A verification email will be sent to your email address from [email protected].
  4. During the applicable time frame, log in to the Aeries Parent Portal.
  5. Complete the General Information section for the new student then click save. 
  6. Information for at least one parent/guardian is required. This includes email address and phone number.
  7. You will be returned to the School Choice Transfer Request screen.
  8. Click on Create a New School of Choice Request.
  9. Be sure to have the correct student profile while processing this request.
  10. Complete the request.
  11. Repeat for every student as necessary.

Gifted And Talented Education (GATE) School Choice Information

Current GATE-identified students attending GATE Magnet Schools do not need to request a School Choice Transfer. Students waiting to hear about qualifying for GATE must adhere to all GATE policies regarding magnet school placement when notified by the GATE Office.
