Dr. Allan Mucerino is the Acting Superintendent of the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD). He began his leadership role with the district on February 24, 2025.
Dr. Mucerino brings a wealth of expertise to his new role. He currently serves as a consultant for the California Collaborative for Educational Excellence (CCEE), an agency operating under the authority of the California State Legislature and Governor. In this capacity, Dr. Mucerino provides strategic guidance to school districts, county offices of education, and charter schools to support the achievement of goals outlined in their Local Control and Accountability Plans (LCAP). Additionally, he serves as a member of the Department of Education faculty at California State University, Fullerton, where he has taught in the Educational Leadership Doctoral Program since 2009.
With three decades of experience in leadership roles across Southern California, Dr. Mucerino’s extensive career in public education spans over 35 years. He retired as Superintendent of Schools from the Alvord Unified School District on June 30, 2024. He served the Alvord community from 2018 to 2024. Prior to Alvord, he served as Superintendent of Duarte Unified School District from 2015 to 2018.
Dr. Mucerino's leadership experience also includes serving as Acting Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent & Chief Instructional Officer at Centinela Valley Union High School District, where he served from 2012 to 2015. Earlier in his career, he spent seventeen years as a middle and high school principal, in both the Saddleback Valley and Newport-Mesa Unified School Districts. Dr. Mucerino began his career in education as a mathematics teacher at Millikan High School in the Long Beach Unified School District.
Dr. Mucerino earned his Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University, his Master's in Education from California State University, Dominguez Hills, and his Bachelor's degree in Psychology from California State University, Long Beach. He has an active single subject mathematics teaching credential and an Administrative Services Credential.
