PYLUSD Now Offers Air Force JROTC

The program, which is open to any 9th through 12th grade student at Esperanza and emphasizes college and career readiness, is an elective class to develop scholars, leaders and citizens with positive values. Students will have an opportunity to study aerospace science and space exploration including units such as “The Science of Flight,” “The Exploration of Space,” and “World Geography: Building a Global Perspective.” The program is augmented with co-curricular activities such as drill meets, model rocketry programs and aerospace/technology camps.

Expanding career and technical educational opportunities at all high schools is one of the initiatives in the district’s five-year strategic plan which was launched this year. The plan, called “The Advantage,” is a road-map to guide the district to achieve its vision of “being a dynamic learning community that prepares each and every student for success now and in the future.” The program was approved by the Board of Education at its March 11 meeting.
