The Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) is excited to announce the selection of Mr. Gary Stine as the new Assistant Superintendent of Administrative Services pending formal approval by the Board of Education at a regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, August 8.
In this role, which was previously titled Assistant Superintendent of Business Services, Mr. Stine will be responsible for the coordination and administration of districtwide functions related to the budget as well as the oversight of several departments including fiscal services, maintenance and facilities, nutrition services, payroll, print shop, purchasing, records, risk management, technology, transportation, and use of facilities.
For the past 18 years, Mr. Stine has served the Orange County Department of Education (OCDE) as manager of application development and, more recently, executive director of support services. In this capacity, he is responsible for leadership of all services related to critical business systems and processes for 43 Orange County K-12, community college, and charter school districts. He also plays an integral role in overseeing the Local Control and Accountability Plans of school districts across the county, serves on the labor negotiations team, and much more.

Prior to his time at OCDE, Mr. Stine was the Director of Information Technology for the Colton Joint Unified School District, where he was responsible for managing district technology resources and the integration of technology into educational services. He brings over 25 years of collective professional experience in a wide variety of roles to his new position in PYLUSD.

Mr. Stine received his master’s degree in public administration from University of Illinois, Springfield, and his bachelor’s degree in computer information systems from DeVry University. He has also completed the chief business official certificate program offered by the California Association of School Business Officials (CASBO), the state’s premier resource for professional development and business best practices for school business leaders.
Notably, Mr. Stine was awarded the Crystal Bell Award by OCDE for exemplifying the mission and values of the organization and providing exceptional service and support. He is also very involved with CASBO and served on the Legislative Advocacy Committee, which encourages legislation that benefits students and school districts. He was recently highlighted in CASBO’s School Business Magazine, which is a magazine that shares details and stories about the California school business industry.

Having spent the last eighteen years serving and working alongside Orange County districts, I know the rich history of Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District and the bright future that lies ahead,” Mr. Stine shared. “It is truly an honor to join the team and serve the district as the Assistant Superintendent of Administrative Services. My goal is to build upon our legacy of success in Administrative Services and work as a team in support of our educational mission to ensure that our students receive the services they need to enable them to become educated, dynamic, and engaged leaders of tomorrow.”
Away from work, Mr. Stine lives in Fountain Valley with his wife, Nikki, and their two dogs. Together they have two adult children, Kendra and Gavin, and one grandchild, Maddie, who turns two in September. As he begins his position with PYLUSD, he noted that he is a proud product of public schools and that education was a priority for raising his children, both of whom attended public schools and are college graduates. In his spare time, he enjoys being with his family, especially his granddaughter, and traveling.
Mr. Stine’s appointment comes after Assistant Superintendent of Business Services, Mr. David Giordano, announced that he would retire in September following eight years with PYLUSD. He will begin his new role on August 22, 2023.

Lejos del trabajo, el Sr. Stine vive en Fountain Valley con su esposa, Nikki, y sus dos perros. Juntos tienen dos hijos adultos, Kendra y Gavin, y una nieta, Maddie, que cumple dos años en septiembre. Al comenzar su puesto en PYLUSD, señaló que es un producto orgulloso de las escuelas públicas y que la educación era una prioridad para criar a sus hijos, quienes asistieron a escuelas públicas y se graduaron de la universidad. En su tiempo libre, disfruta estar con su familia, especialmente con su nieta, y viajar.
