PYLUSD High School Bands Finish in Top 10 in So Cal Championships

For the first time ever, all Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District high school bands competed in the Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association championships, the equivalent of the “Super Bowl” for bands and the final band competition of the year.

Out of 150 schools across Southern California, only the top 72 bands are selected to compete in the event which was held the weekend prior to Thanksgiving. The bands are selected based on their top three scores in tournaments or competitions this school year. The bands with the highest scores are invited to participate in one of six divisions, which are based on band and school size.

“It says a lot about the quality of our district’s music program when every single one of our high school bands advances to the championship tournament,” said Visual and Performing Arts Coordinator Phil Mortensen.

The results: Every single PYLUSD high school band finished in the top 10 of their respective divisions.

• Yorba Linda High competed in Division 3a and won 9th overall.

• Esperanza High competed in Division 4a and finished 9th overall.

• Valencia High competed in Division 4a and was awarded 2nd overall. They also won three high awards: High Colorguard, High Precussion and High Visual (or Marching) Award

• El Dorado competed in Division 6a and took 8th overall.

Congratulations!
