Valencia Female Student Continues International Wins

Gabby, who started wrestling when she was six years old, is a California state wrestling champion. This past year, she was the 2014 California State Individual Wrestling Championship in the 123 lb. weight class. In May, she traveled to Brazil to compete in the Cadet Fila Pan American Championships, an international wrestling competition for athletes 15-17 years of age. Gabby brought home the bronze medal. Her enthusiasm doesn’t take a summer break. This summer, she was a member of Team USA Wrestling at the Cadet World Championships in Slovakia where she finished fifth. In July, she traveled to Fargo, North Dakota where she made the 121 lb. weight class and won the gold medal. She pinned in the finals in 42 seconds.

Gabby hopes to represent Team USA in the 2016 Olympics in Brazil. She also aspires to “make her country happy and win an Olympic gold medal,” as she stated at the 2013 Women’s Freestyle Cadet Nationals, where she won the tournament’s gold medal.

There are four age categories in women’s freestyle wrestling:
• Schoolgirls, young women ages 14-15, or age 13 with a medical certificate and parent authorization;
• Cadets , young women ages 16–17; or age 15 with a medical certificate and parent authorization;
• Juniors, young women ages 18 to 20; or age 17 with a medical certificate and parent authorization) competing in freestyle wrestling; and
• Seniors.

As for school, Gabby loves Valencia High School. Her favorite subject is history. During her spare time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends.

After high school graduation, she plans to attend college. Of course, she will also continue wrestling.
