We Are All About Wellness!

Did you know that people who eat beets bleed less when they have a cut? Or, did you know that eating fresh peas increase energy?

Students from the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District learned these healthy tips as well as much more through recently held Farmer’s Market assemblies. Following the installation of produce bars at the district’s five elementary Title I schools, students at those schools participated in mini farmers’ market assemblies. Farmer Bob, Farmer Mary, and Farmer Kaito brought freshly picked produce and told students all about their ‘super powers’!

These mini farmers’ market assemblies and produce bars were provided to all PYLUSD elementary Title I schools through a wellness grant funded by St. Jude Hospital as part of collaborative efforts to promote wellness in the PYLUSD community.

Besides learning valuable information through the assemblies, students also had the opportunity to take some produce home with them. Parents reported that their children were very excited about all that they learned regarding the benefits of eating fresh fruits and vegetables.

Students will be on the look-out for produce from Old Grove Farm featured in the produce bars. Thank you, St. Jude Hospital!
