Northeast Orange County SELPA

Northeast Orange County SELPA

A Special Education Local Plan Area, SELPA, is a consortium of geographical regions of sufficient size and scope to provide for all special education service needs of children residing within the region boundaries. California currently has 135 SELPAs, ranging in size from those serving fewer than 1,000 students to those serving more than 10,000 students. The Northeast Orange County SELPA, serving over 4,100 students, comprises Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District and Brea-Olinda Unified School District. Each SELPA must have an Administrative Unit (AU) which is the legal entity that receives funds and is responsible for seeing that every eligible child receives appropriate services. The AU for the Northeast Orange County SELPA is Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District which provides support services to enhance the provision of quality special education within our region. Both SELPA LEAs are committed to equitable learning programs and access for all students by partnering with staff, students, families and the community to ensure that our students with IEPs have the educational resources needed to thrive.

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act 20 United States Code (20 USC) Section 1400 et seq. and related federal regulations, require each special education local plan area (SELPA) to ensure a continuum of program options are available to meet the needs of students with disabilities for special education and related services. This is accomplished through the Local Plan
