2020-2021 School Bus Passes

The Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District will provide home-to-school transportation for students living beyond the distance established by the Board of Education.
Eligibility for Transportation
The following guidelines shall be used in providing home-to-school transportation for students who live beyond the following distance to/from their school of attendance. Distance is measured from the entrance of the school to points around the school forming a circle with the established distance being the radius of the circle.
  • Elementary School - 1.75 Miles
  • Middle School - 2.25 Miles
  • High School - 3.25 Miles
Passes for the 2020-2021 school year will be issues by semester, for one-way or round-trip transportation. The pass will provide home-to-school or school-to-home or one-way transportation as specified for each school day. Transportation shall be provided to elementary school students who would otherwise have to cross railroad tracks to walk to school/home.

We strongly recommend payment for bus passes by phone, mail, or online.
Paper bus applications will be mailed to students who rode the bus in the 2019-2020 school year.
A separate bus pass application must be filled out for each student.

Cost of a Bus Pass
All students riding school buses, home-to-school and/or school-to-home shall pay fees as set forth by the Board of Education. 2020-2021 Fall Semester bus pass fees have been adjusted for the modified schedule.

The first three children in a family will be charged according to the above fee schedule. The fourth and any additional children will be provided transportation at no additional charge.
Exempt Bus Passes
The following students shall be exempt from fees:
  •  Students receiving Special Education services, which include transportation as specified in their IEP.
  •  Families qualifying under state law and regulations for free or reduced-cost transportation.

 How Will Bus Passes Be Received
If you apply in person at the bus pass office your pass will be received at the time you apply.
If applied for by mail, please allow two weeks.
Items Needed to Apply for a Bus Pass
  • Proof of Residency (i.e., Gas Bill, Electric Bill)
  • Current Small Photo of Child Applying for Bus Pass
  • Payment (Cash, Check or Money Order, Visa or MasterCard)
  • All families will be encouraged to pay by phone or by mail. 
What Form of Payment Is Accepted
  • Cash
  • Check or Money Order (Checks Made out to P.Y.L.U.S.D.)
  • Visa / MasterCard
Returned Checks: If a check is returned there is a $ 20.00 service fee.
Free or Reduced Bus Passes
All free and reduced bus pass applications will be verified.
Semester Renewal of Bus Passes
Semester renewal applications will be sent to the appropriate rider's home four weeks before the end of the semester.
Replacement/Lost Passes
If a bus pass is lost or damaged it can be replaced for a fee of $10.00 along with a new picture of the student. This can be done at the bus pass office.
Refunds for Bus Pass
A refund is given for the following reasons only:
  • The family moves out of the district (withdrawal slip required).
  • The family moves to an area in the district where the student will not be eligible for transportation.
  • The student enters a special program where the IEP qualifies the student for free transportation.
  • The family qualifies for free or reduced-cost transportation during the year. 
Requests for refunds must be made at the district transportation office and the pass must be surrendered in order to receive a refund. Refunds will be prorated for the remaining time of validity of the pass, less a $10.00 handling fee.
Misuse of Passes
Students attempting to use a lost, stolen, borrowed or forged pass may lose their riding privileges for the remainder of the year (without refund). Passes may not be used by anyone other than the person to whom it is issued to.
Forgotten Passes
Each bus driver maintains a "No Pass Log" on his or her bus. According to the student's grade level, they are able to ride the bus until they have forgotten their pass the following amount of times:
  • Elementary - 3 Warnings
  • Junior High - 2 Warnings
  • High School - 1 Warning
    After the student has exceeded their "grace" time, they may be denied transportation services.
